Mukhisa Kituyi officially took office Sunday (September 1st) as the head of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Kenya's Daily Nation reported.
Kituyi, who will lead UNCTAD for the next four years, said his new role at the agency presented an opportunity to both him and to Kenya as a whole.
"I am ready with my team to prove that, indeed, we are equal to the task," Kituyi said.
Kituyi's first task will be hosting world trade leaders in Geneva for the 60th UNCTAD board meeting between September 16th-27th, where participants will discuss urgent policy, management and institutional issues.
Kituyi takes over the post from Thailand's Supachai Panitchpakdi.
