Egypt: Interim President Forms Constitutional Amendment Committee

Egypt's interim President Adli Mansour issued a presidential decree on Sunday announcing the formation of the 50-member committee that is assigned to draft the final amendments of the constitution, a presidential source told Aswat Masriya.

The source added that the decree includes adding the 10-member technical committee to the 50-member committee, only the technical committee will not have the right to vote on the amendments.

The technical committee finalized their amendments on the 2012 suspended constitution and presented it to the interim president one week earlier.

According to the presidential decree, the new committee should finalize its work during 60 days after its formation.

The names of chosen representatives of the 50-member committee will be announced at a press conference shortly.

The constitutional committee must incorporate representatives of political parties, intellectuals, workers, farmers, unionists, and national councils, according to Article 29 of the 8 July Constitutional Declaration.
