Naivas have entered into a partnership with Chasebank Kenya and VISA to convert Naivas credit cards into VISA prepaid Cards. The Launch of the Naivas prepaid cards was held on 3rd September 2013 at Naivas Branch,at the Mall Westlands and was attended by dignitaries from Chasebank, Naivas and Visa.
The card will act as both a payment and reward card to the card holders this will see all the current Naivas card holders to Visa pre-paid cards. The new prepaid mastercard can earn smart points world wide .It is credited for cash other than having sweets for coins and can be loaded from any Chase bank outlet and any other Mobile Banking Services like M-Pesa and Airtel Money.
According to Paul Njagah who is the Deputy CEO Chase Bank "We at Chase Bank believe on focus on exceptional customer service and building in strong relationships.
We are committed to finding new ways of doing things and continual improvement is at heart of our business and that's why when Naivas approached us to partner with them in coming up with the pre-paid Visa Card, we couldn't disagree because we know the card will add value and consistence with the earnings of the customers using the card." He also added that customer loyalty bonus could be earned at any Chase Bank outlet.
Naivas Chairman, Simon Mukuha attributed that the Visa powered reward card is a card that has been created for the people and by the people who want to see the Kenyan Economy grow. He added that Naivas is the first supermarket to launch Visa Powered Reward Card and hopes that through the card they will be able to be ambassadors of good choice by helping their customers save up their money.
Mr. Jabu Basopo, Country Manager for Southern and East Africa said that the initiative was a great step in adding value to Kenyan Banking Sector and that they were looking forward to working with the partners to ensure that Kenyans benefit fully with the partnership.
Currently there are 29 Naivas stores country wide and 29 Chasebank branches plus 500 Chasebank agents where customers can register for the cards. The card holders of the previous cards will be required to hand them in so that they can be replaced with the new cards.
Naivas targets 175000 customers to acquire the cards within the first phase of the project. The card is much faster as it takes a minimum of six seconds to carry out all transactions including getting a response from the banker and sending balance directly to your account. Also, Nakumatt Stores in Kenya will soon also launch a multicurrency prepaid EMV Master card according to a twitter handle.
