UASIN Gishu county has earmarked Sh20 million for the construction of rural roads. Governor Jackson Mandago said this will open up the region for transportation of farmers' produce to the markets.
Speaking at the University of Eldoret during the official opening of agri-business trade fair yesterday, Mandago said the construction will star when the heavy rains in the region subside.
He said rural roads in the region are in poor state and farmers have had difficult times transporting their produce.
"During the rainy season they are even worse and perishable goods like milk go bad due to cars getting stuck while transporting them to the markets," Mandago said.
He said they have captured infrastructure development in the county integrated development plan to help farmers cut costs of transportation.
