Tarime — TARIME town council has launched an investigation into the circumstances which led to allocation of an open space to businessmen who have started to develop the area for private purposes.
The Sabasaba grounds is located in the central urban area and was formerly an open space used for public activities including rallies and reception point for government and political leaders.
Council authorities have remained mum on the matter despite the ongoing construction of several business stalls taking place.
The Town Council Executive Director, Mr Venance Mwamengo, told the 'Daily News' that he would conduct an investigation into the matter to establish how the allocation was done.
He said he was recently appointed to the post and was yet to be informed on that particular transaction.
The area Councillor Christopher Chomete blamed the township authorities for allocation of the public land without adequate approval and participation of full council in the process.
He said all those implicated should be taken to task.He explained that it was unbecoming and a bad precedent for businessmen to scramble and get public land without following proper procedures.
