The Council of the Ethiopian Peoples' Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has called for the intensification of efforts in the New Year towards accomplishment of the intended development targets.
To this end, the Council stressed the need to synchronize the efforts of the three movers of change and development namely the government the public and the ruling party.
The Council concluded its three day regular meeting on Tuesday after reflecting past achievements and outlining future directions.
During the meeting, the Council evaluated performance over the past one year in light of the Growth and Transformation Plan.
It also pinpointed strengths and weaknesses which it said should be kept or averted in the upcoming year.
The Council evaluated activities undertaken in the agriculture, education, health and service sectors as well as micro and small enterprises during the concluded Ethiopian budget year (2005EC.).
During its three-day deliberation, the Council assessed the results gained in basin and irrigation development, crop production as well as animal fattening.
It also discussed the achievements in the justice system reform and good governance.
The Council said the results gained in all areas are encouraging and lauded the contribution of members and of the public in general for the achievements gained during the reported period.
It affirmed that the city council and local elections held during the reported period was peaceful and democratic and won public acceptance.
It decided to strengthen the activities being undertaken to end religious extremism as it violates the constitution and affects the peaceful coexistence of different religions as well as peace and stability of the country.
The Council discussed the participation of opposition political parties during the previous city council and local elections.
It also affirmed that EPRDF will work with political parties which undertake their activities in peaceful manner and support ongoing efforts of the country to build democratic system.
The Council called for the amplification of efforts in the New Year towards realization of the intended development goals.
The Council wished the New Year to be peaceful, joyous and prosperous for all Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia.
