The Jubaland administration leader and head of the Ras Kamboni Brigade, Sheikh Ahmed Islam also known as Sheikh Madobe, narrowly escaped death. Suspected al Shabaab militia detonated a bomb close to his convoy in Kismayu on Thursday evening. Madobe, who fought alongside Somalia National Army and Amisom troops to dislodge the al Shabaab from Kismayu, was returning from a trip to Mogadishu.

He had gone to Mogadishu to meet with Somalia Federal Government President Sheikh Hassan Mahmoud and Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon Saaid."The incident occurred near the Kismayu presidential palace located in Arco Fanoole district. Civilians are reportedly among the casualties," the African Union said in a statement yesterday.
