Hamelmalo — The inhabitants of Feledarib Administrative area indicated that a micro-dam in the locality has made significant impact as regards enriching water resources.
They further stated that it has impounded ample amount of water in line with the commendable rainfall registered in the area, thus encouraging irrigation activities in its environs.
Among the inhabitants, Mr. Idris Mohammed Seid and Mr. Ramadan Osman explained that the ongoing irrigation ventures have made remarkable input as regards improving their livelihood, and that farmers have demonstrated impressive work spirit.
Mr. Idris Yacob, Administrator of Hamelmalo sub-zone, said that the micro-dam is capable of reserving more than 300,000 cubic meters of water, and that low-income farmers would be motivated to become beneficiaries of the available irrigation farming opportunities on the basis of grouping. He also pointed out that the availability of such water reserve has given rise to better biological diversity and community livelihood, and called on the inhabitants to apply the necessary soil and water conservation techniques so as to avoid alluvial deposits in the micro-dam.
