The Composite Price Index (CPI), which measures the average change in price level in the economy, otherwise referred to as inflation rate, was down 0.5 percentage points lower, from the 8.7 percent recorded in the preceding month, to 8.2 per cent on year-on-year basis in August.
The August inflation rate, which further sustained the single digit trend achieved so far since the beginning of the financial year, represented the lowest point recorded in five years.
