Nairobi police boss Benson Kibue directed officers to deal firmly with protesting armed hawkers in the city. He said police should not allow armed hawkers to destroy properties in the city. Kibue said they should make it a priority to protect the lives of city residents.
On Monday, police constable Geoffrey Murumba was attacked and injured as protesting hawkers burnt his motorcyle. Several motorists and pedestrians caught in the protests were attacked and robbed near the Globe Round-about.
