Nigeria: Sokoto Inaugurates Local Emergency Committees, Moves to Mitigate Flood Disaster

The Sokoto state government has inaugurated the Local Emergency Management Committees drawn from the 23 local government areas, to undertake the management of natural disasters at local levels, with a view to managing and mitigating disaster in the state. He also said the state government released N47 million for the purchase of food, clothing and other vital relief materials in the event of the outbreak of flood disaster in any community in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Committees in Sokoto, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sahabi Isa Gada, stated that the inauguration of the Local Emergency Management Committees was part of the emergency response preparedness that should be in place to ensure that all hands were on deck to adequately respond to such needs.
