Secret rooms in residential houses and offices are important in enhancing the safety of occupants, either from vagaries of weather such as hurricanes and tornadoes, or for security purposes.

In offices, such hidden rooms can be camouflaged with book shelves or cabinets. They can be useful for keeping private items safe such as licensed guns, cash and sensitive documents. In case of a threat to one's security, such as unrest, secret rooms are a safe haven for occupants.
