Ndeybassin Foundation for Children (NFC) in partnership with the American Embassy in The Gambia Monday began a five-day national youth summer camp for children on the theme; 'A girl's right to learn without fear, working to end gender-based violence at schools in The Gambia'. The programme was held at the American Corner in Bundung. Speaking at the ceremony, Madi Jobarteh, the programme manager of TANGO, commended the founder of Ndeybassin Foundation for Children for the good initiative. He described it as a very important programme as it is going to help to introduce children to ideas about human rights and gender-based violence amongst others.
Jobarteh advised the children to take the summer camp seriously as it is going to help to empower and develop their capacities. He urged them to participate actively as there will be surprise packages after the camp. Ndey Bassin, the founder of Ndeybassin Foundation for Children, explained that School Related Gender Based Violence (SRGBV) is a fundamental violation of human rights, particularly those of women and children and represents a considerable barrier to participation in education, gender equity and to the achievement of Education for all and the Millennium Development goals (MDGs).
