Gambia: 'Adult Literacy is Essential for Poverty Reduction'

The minister of Basic and Secondary Education has underscored the importance of adult literacy, noting that this form of education is essential for poverty reduction, child mortality, curbing population growth, achieving gender equality and ensuring sustainable development amongst others.

Minister Fatou Lamin was speaking Tuesday at a local hotel in Kololi during the opening ceremony of a two-day workshop on the development of an action plan for holistic functional literacy programmes in The Gambia.
