The Ministry of Urban Development and Construction has presented a draft policy document on construction industry development for discussion with stakeholders. This is intended to ensure efficiency in the construction sector.
Minister Mekuria Haile said that the draft policy aimed to foster efficiency in construction finance, establish ways to identify liable parties when delays in construction projects occurred, and ensure the supply of construction materials and job creation in the sector were closely linked. The draft also provides for the establishment of the 'Ethiopian Construction Management Institute' to provide support and follow-up for construction projects and for the different actors in the industry. Together with the draft policy, a draft proclamation on the Construction Industry was presented for discussion. This is expected to provide the necessary legal framework for the effective implementation of the draft policy.
