The Ministry of Urban Development and Construction has said it has created job opportunities for over 2 million citizens in 2005 Ethiopian budget year.
The Minister of Urban Development and Construction Mekuria Haile made the remark at the opening of the 6th conference of Urban Development and Construction sector in Hawasa town.
Mekuria said it was planned to create jobs for 1.7 citizens in the aforementioned budget year. However, the accomplishment surpassed the plan in creating jobs for 2.2 million citizens in manufacturing, urban agriculture, trade and service sectors.
Some 798 thousand among the jobs created are in the mega projects undergoing in the nation including sugar and road construction, he said.
The minister also said various alternatives were designed and are being implemented to address the housing problem of citizens in the same year.
