Nakuru county assembly has adjourned its sittings until the Salary and Remuneration Commission increases their salaries. Biashara ward representative Stephen Kuria tabled the motion on Thursday. He said the chairperson of SRC Sarah Serem should increase their salaries before theyr resume work.
Kuria said the Sh79, 000 paid to MCAs is too little to sustain their demands. "By going on recess, we are giving the Serem led commission more time to consider our pay rises because we can not continue working this way," he said.
Kuria said the SRC is bias in its salaries awards by neglecting the plights of ward representatives. He said the SRC should be disbanded and replced with a non-partisan commission.
Bahati ward representative Peter Nderitu accused the national goverment of failing to push the SRC to increase their salaries.
