South Africa: Orlando Pirates, Pride of Our Nation

The African National Congress congratulates Orlando Pirates Football Club for their sterling performance in the CAF Champions League thus far. Reaching the semi-finals after have played and triumphed in a group with distinguished clubs such as current title holders and seven times champions, Al-Ahly, as well as four times title holders, Zamalek, is no small feat. The last time a South African team made it this far was in 2006 and this achievement by Orlando Pirates 8 years later deserves acknowledgement and celebrations.

Throughout this tournament, Orlando Pirates has displayed unparalleled sportsmanship, amazing skill, determination and resilience; indeed the hallmarks of champions. The success of Orlando Pirates on the continental stage is a success of all of us as South Africans and we should all be justly proud of their achievements. The African National Congress calls upon all South Africans to rally behind Orlando Pirates, the Pride of Our Nation, as they take on yet another African giant, Esperance Tunis, in the semi-finals.
