POLICE in Garissa town have intensified security patrols in the wake of Nairobi's Westgate Mall attack. County police boss Charles Kinyua said security has been beefed up in all the 36 churches in the township. He said the paramilitary police have been deployed at the Tana Bridge. "We have put our security agencies on high alert along the 1200 km Kenya-Somali border," Kinyua said.
He said special units have been deployed at Amuma, Liboi and Holugho towns. "We are ready to mobilise more personnel when need be," Kinyua said. He said police are liaising with the National Security intelligence Service and military intelligence to coordinate the patrols.
Kinyua said measures have been put in place to ensure safety and security of residents.
