Osun State House of Assembly confirmed the nomination of Governor Rauf Aregbesola for the composition of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) to conduct the Local Government election before the next year governorship election in the state.
After screening their credentials which was followed by cross examination, the State House of Assembly yesterday (Monday) confirmed the seven nominees as contained in the list forwarded to the legislature by Aregbesola.
The nominees include Otunba Oladunjoye Oladitan as chairman of the Commission, Mr. Adeyemo Oluwole Abiola, Alhaji Kazeem Olsyiwola, Mr. Omoleke Ologungun Dauda, Mr. Oyeniran Robert Sunday, Mr. Ebenezer Adesola Awobiyi, and Mrs. Omibeku Olayemi Bosede as members.
While speaking on behalf of the House, Honourable Najeem Salaam said the parliament resolved to confirm OSIEC members, because the nominees were qualified and that there was no legal restraint barring the legislature from screening and confirming them for OSIEC.
Salaam then charged OSIEC members to live above board, noting that people of the state would not take rigging and manipulation of electoral process from any umpire.
According to him: "Osun people want electoral processes devoid of rigging and manipulation, election that would make the winners happy, and losers gallant in defeat; not election that will bring violence and disorder."
