The National Legislature has approved US$170,000 in the 2013/2014 fiscal budget for workers of the disbanded Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).
The money was suggested and presented to the Legislature by the Executive Branch of government.
According to the Budget Shifting Table, a copy of which is in the possession of this paper, US$170,000 is to settle the arrears of the former TRC employees.
The table did not say how many months the money would cover as arrears.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commissions was temporarily established to investigate and document atrocities committed during the war.
This was intended to promote reconciliation among Liberians as well as victims and perpetrators. The TRC, established by the Comprehensive Peace Accord in Accra, Ghana, was headed by Cllr. Jerome J. Verdier.
