AWOL's Vice Chairperson, Madam YabomeLansana, said it was a pleasure that they have delivered the consignment in fulfillment of their promise for the reconstruction of the St. Augustine Primary School in Gondama during their June 16th Day of the African Child celebrations in the town.
"I assure you that we are partners in our efforts to change the face of Gondama, from one of sadness to happiness and put back smiles on the faces of the children of this forgotten community," she said, adding that the township played a unique role during 14 years of war in the Mano River Union by hosting refugees from neighbouring Liberia and internally displaced persons in Sierra Leone.
"With this support, Gondama is part of our lives as AWOL members," she noted, adding that she has an adopted daughter in the township that she is now responsible for.
The Commander of the 5th Infantry Brigade at Gondama, Col SET Marah, said the good days of the RSLAF is about to start.
"This support to the 5th Infantry Brigade has just matched the wonderful package His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, has prepared for the RSLAF," he said, adding that he will make sure the CDS and Commander Joint Force aware about the AWOL donation.
"This news will meet His Excellency as well that here is an indigenous organization that is doing so much to develop Sierra Leone just like other international NGOs are doing," he said, adding that the brigade will remain ever grateful to AWOL for the support.
"We are very much proud of you," he said in appreciation, stating further that the President has already put together a wonderful package for the RSLAF, including four ultra-modern barracks across the country, and also plans to build a barracks at Gondama.
He also said that over the previous years they have been receiving assistance from NGOs but are unfortunately tied to difficult conditions, reiterating that what was special about AWOL's support was it is coming from a Sierra Leonean organization, an organization that is part of every Sierra Leonean.
"The only condition we have with AWOL- which I think is very fair, is for us to use the donation for the intended purpose," he said.
Abdul Kabba Kargbo, who was the Chairman of the June 16th DAC Committee during which time the pledge was made, said when AWOL promises they always ensure to fufill.
"On behalf of the Godfather of our organisation Mr. MoserayFadika, and our current Chairman Amb. Anthony Navo Jnr, we are presenting this donation as a follow-up to activities after the June 16thprogramme that was held in this township," said Kargbo, adding that AWOL would always invest in education because the organization believes it is the key to the empowerment of young people and the development of the entire nation.
"Gondama is very special to AWOL because of its unique history, especially during the war. And your hospitality to us during the June 16thprogramme was exceptional," he said.
Meanwhile, Kargbo announced that preparations are underway for the holding of this year's National Achievement Awards at the Family Kingdom on Sunday 29th December, 2013.
