Luanda city needs over 40 footbridges to relieve traffic and avoid run-over and other accidents, the province's governor Bento Francisco Bento said Friday here.
Bento Bento said so at the ceremony of re-launch of the Secondary and Tertiary Roads Programme in the presence of the president of Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, in the high density Cazenga district, Luanda.
According to Luanda governor, the lack of such infrastructures in some parts of the city causes much jam.
This calls for urgent construction of overpasses to avoid unnecessary contact between pedestrians and vehicles.
The project includes the installation of road metallic wire separators to force pedestrians into using the overpasses.
In May this year, the Luanda Road Traffic director , Jorge Bengue, identified 53 critical spots for pedestrian crossings in the municipalities, with stress to the "Comadante Loy", "Deolinda Rodrigues" avenues and "Samba" and "Cacuaco" highways.
