Katsina — Barely 48 hours after the Bala Saulawa-led new PDP denounced its position and reverted its loyalty to the Alhaji Bamanga Tukur-led faction of the party, another group has emerged restoring the eclipsed Baraje-led PDP faction in the state.
Briefing reporters yesterday in Katsina, former Chairmanof Safana council, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmad Zakka said the new PDP still exists in the state, describing the last reconciliation meeting as a deceptive plan aimed at scuttling the activities of the Baraje-led faction in the state.
"The recent reconciliation between the new and old PDP in Katsina was unsuccessful because the issues discussed at the meeting did not tally with our demands. We demanded for internal democracy in the party, but government ended up promising us appointments," he said.
The fresh New PDP said they also demanded that Governor Ibrahim Shema should abandon the Bamanga led faction of the PDP and reconcile with his colleague-governors who are with the Baraje, but he failed to do so.
He said "we are not opposing government appointments to the old PDP. Rather we are fighting injustice and unfair treatment meted out to members of the party. We are with the seven governors who parted ways with the old PDP and we will continue to support them."
He said the new PDP will soon announce its new leaders in Katsina, adding that more PDP supporters would soon declare their support to the new PDP.
