IN an endeavour to help reduce unemployment in the country AccessBank Tanzania (ABT) has hired and developed more than 500 strong professionals including graduates, in five years.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam over the weekend, the Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank Tanzania, Roland Coulon, said the bank, with a current deposit balance of more than 100m/- and more than 122,000 clients, has a special focus on microfinance and therefore hires employees on merit.
"In five years, AccessBank managed to hire and develop more than 500 strong professionals to serve the bank customers. In addition we have been engaged in various social responsibility programmes for schools in Dar es Salaam," Coulon explained.
He added, "ABT is a socially responsible bank for the lower and middle income strata of the Tanzanian society with the objective to be the leading provider of financial services in Tanzania," he clarified.
It was explained that since the bank's inception in November 2007, ABT has disbursed more than 70,000 loans of 250 billion/-. Commenting on immediate development plans, the CEO said more branches will be opened up-country starting with Tabora, in early January 2014, to make a total of 10 branches (7 in Dar and 3 up-country).
"We (ABT) will introduce some mobile and agency banking services for our clients to transact more conveniently. We have been able to grow our loan portfolio by more than 50 per cent in 2013," he said Creation of ABT involved a mixture of international shareholders such as AccessHolding, International Finance Corporation (World Bank), KfW, African Development Bank and BIO.
However, the executive is quite aware of the significant contribution by the esteemed customers and requested them to keep interacting with the bank to help develop the financial services that fit their needs.
