the Garissa County Assembly yesterday adjourned its sitting after members disagreed about a job. Chaos erupted over whether to advertise the post of the clerk or vote to retain the current one, Yussuf Ahmed.
Ahmed was proposed by the Ministry of Immigration. The assembly speaker Mohammed Abey had ruled that the position be advertised by the Garissa Public Service Board. The minority side however disapproved and began throwing chairs at him.
The police were called in to contain the situation. The minority said the speaker was biased when he went against the order paper and ruled in favour of the majority. Chief whip Mohamed Farah said the minority would not have accepted the outcome even if they voted. Northern Forum for Democracy coordinator Khalif Abdi Farah called on Governor Nadhif Jama to unite the house.
