Asmara — The Ministry of Mines and Energy said that the 4th Geo Congress would be conducted from the 1st to the 5th of October at Asmara Palace Hotel involving the participation of various country representatives, geologists, representatives of mining companies and others.
Mr. Mebrahtu Ogbazgi, head of mining resource management, said that the organizing of such a meeting is of paramount importance as regards promoting safe mining activities and exchange of experience, besides the exposure it ensures for investors to investigate the potentials in the country vis-à-vis the prevailing peace and stability. He also pointed out that Eritrea has become one of the nations that are encouraging mining companies through favorable policies and the potential resource it has, and that around 20 exploration companies are subsequently operating in the country.
Mr. Michael Abraha, head of mining development in the Ministry, disclosed that a total of 16 research papers would be presented at the meeting focusing on issues such as the importance of mining industry, potentials of the Arab-Nubian shield, importance of potash in agricultural development, employee health in mining sites and the vitality of hot springs as regards tourism and health. He further stated that the meeting would be followed by tours to mining, exploration and other sites, besides the display of an exhibition in this connection.
Reports indicate that around 400 individuals are expected to take part in the meeting.
