The Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491) contains three parts, namely, "Holding of Special Event", "Imposition of curfews" and "Arms and Ammunition". This article will concentrate on Part I.
What is a "Special Event" under the Act? The section on the interpretation of the Act defines a "Special Event" as 'procession, parade, carnival, street dance, celebration of traditional custom, outdooring of traditional ruler, demonstration, public meeting and similar event.'
