Mozambique: Kenyans to Finish Tenth in Maputo

KENYA finished tenth as the Afrobasket championships after they lost 41-63 to Cape Verde in Maputo, Mozambique.

The girls got off to a bad start trailing by a staggering 7-26 shoreline in the first quarter. At the end of the second quarter, nothing went right as Cape Verde took a strong 34-20 lead. In the third quarter Kenya still battled from behind 51-27 before Cape Verde put the icing on the cake with a 17-13 cushion. Kenya won two out seven matches.

Leading the Kenya scoring tally was forward Angela Okoth who had 12 points while guard Hilda Luvandwa made 8pointsts. Liveralto Omela posted 20 points for Cape Verde as Andrade Lushea posted 12 points. Kenya had earlier beaten Cape Verde 64-63 in over time in their last preliminary Group 'B' game that saw Hilda Indasi score 21 points, Shilalei Shani nail 15 and Purity Ouma shoot 11.

This win set up another classification tie against Zimbabwe whom they blanked 63-52 as Hilda Indasi nailed 21 points with the losers' Chamwarura Sharon hitting 18.
