A woman from Nyeri has been recruited to the military. The Ministry of Defence began countrywide recruitment for the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force, Kenya Navy and Kenya Defence Forces yesterday.
One woman and three men were selected in Nyeri out of 300 people who turned up at Chaka grounds. Kenya Navy Senior Recruiting Officer Edward Kimosop said the number of youths who showed up for the exercise was average.
"Not many many women turned up," he said. Kimosop said the recruits went through various tests.
First their academic papers were checked. There dental structure was also assessed. A medical test was then conducted on the participants. They were tested for HIV/Aids and their height and weight were measured. The men ran 6 kilometres and the women 3.
Only 120 men and 28 women passed the first test. The countrywide exercise will end at the end of October. The recruits will report to the training centre in early November.
