Following the tragic crash of the plane conveying the remains of the late former Ondo State governor Olusegun Agagu to Akure en route Lagos on Thursday, the family has decided to reduce the burial to a family affair.
The family said the decision was taken in honour of the souls that were lost in the Lagos plane crash on Thursday.
The younger brother of the former governor, Mr Femi Agagu said in Iju Odo, the hometown of the Agagus that even in its own bereavement, the family deeply mourned all those who lost their lives in the ill-fated plane crash which occurred when Dr. Agagu's body was being taken home for burial.
He told journalists that "In deference to all the families who are in bereavement and out of respect for the memory of the departed, the Agagu family has decided to scale down the details of the funeral to its barest minimum.
"Accordingly, the funeral will now be a private family affair, short of all the pomp and pageantry of a state burial.
"The Agagu family deeply commiserates with all the bereaved families and prays fervently for the repose of the souls of all the departed, even as the family continues remains in close contact with the affected families."
It is also instructive to note that the traditional Christian wake was entirely cancelled on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the body of the former governor was still being expected at the Agagu residence at Iju Odo as at press time.
Some personalities that have arrived the town for the burial are presently converged at the house of the former governor as the town remained in pensive mood.
