The former Tororo district chairperson, Radice Okama, is demanding Shs 500m to give up a 50-feet strip of his land along the Malaba-Bugiri road. SBI contractors won the contract to upgrade the Bugiri-Malaba road, while Okama was still chairperson in 2011.
Following his ouster, Okama said part of the planned road encroached on his land. Through his lawyers Ochieng, Harimwomugasho and Company Advocates, Okama wrote to the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) on August 5, 2013, seeking compensation.
