Carthage — The political situation, ways to break the current deadlock and the position of the National Alliance for the Success of the Democratic Process as to the national dialogue were discussed at a meeting held on Tuesday between Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki and a delegation from the Alliance.
The delegation said the Alliance is supportive of national dialogue, spokesperson Mohamed Goumani said at the end of the meeting.
He stressed the need for this initiative to gather all the strands of the political spectrum and the components of civil society, without exclusion, so as to steer the country out of the crisis.
He also expressed concerns over a potential backlash barring the way to this initiative, exhorting sponsor organisations to show flexibility towards parties that have not signed the roadmap, a Presidency press release indicated.
The Alliance had briefed the President of the Republic about its stance in favour of holding the elections at the end of the first quarter of 2014 at the latest, he added.
Goumani affirmed that President Marzouki had expressed his keenness to see political players reach solutions to end the crisis, the statement also reads.
