Kenya: Chiefs Given One Week to Build Latrines

RARIEDA deputy county commissioner Joseph Onyango has issued a one-week ultimatum to chiefs to put up pit latrines in their areas. The ultimatum comes after the Public Health Department released a report which showed most homes do not have latrines.

The chiefs and their assistants were among those who did not have latrines in their homes. The BMU and the religious leaders are said to be frustrating efforts by the health department to declare the area 'Open Defecation Free zone'.
