SADTU finds it strange that the Anglican Church can call its followers who are members of SADTU to either transform or resign from the Union when the church has a priest who was convicted for fraud in 2007. Bishop Matt Esau was found guilty of misappropriating R500 000 from an Athlone NGO - Careers Resource Information Centre. The money had been donated to the Centre by a US Government Aid agency. Esau was ordered to pay R100 000 to the agency and was sentenced to 104 hours of community service. He was suspended from the ministry for three years but the sentence was suspended for three years.
We understand this priest was also in the same synod that took the resolution on SADTU members.
