With the release of NET's 'most influential people in Nigeria's entertainment industry' list, one cannot help but wonder about this new-found interest in 'lists' nowadays. Apparently, Forbes Africa released a Most Bankable African Artists lists and some music fans went up in arms.
Some wondered why a musician of Akon's class should be on the same list with the likes of Wizkid and Ice Prince. Some even went as far as doubting the authenticity of the list, saying no such list appeared on Forbes' website.
Recently, the Huffington Post, an online newspaper, allegedly posted a list of Africa's richest artists; Notjustok.com, a lifestyle and music website, has also been heating up the Nigerian entertainment scene with its 'Best Producers in Nigeria' and 'Most Gifted Rappers' lists, with rappers Godwon and Sinzu releasing diss tracks against each other as a result of the list. Some celebrities will do almost anything to be on a list, not minding its origin or neccessity.
Does appearing on a list cement your status as a celebrity or does it enhance your talents as an artist? Someone, please, explain.
