Tanzania: Malindi Draw With Zimamoto

Zanzibar — MALINDI battled to a goalless draw with Zimamoto in the Zanzibar Grand Malt Premier League at the Mao Tse Tung Stadium here. Zimamoto had a lion's share of the game but poor finishing let them down.

Hakimu Meni was the chief culprit as he had many scoring chances but shot widely with the net at his mercy. Malindi's scoring duo of Masoud Abdallah and Fasihi Hija also frustrated their side for squandering many open chances that came their way.

They were also tightly marked by Zimamoto defenders. The results have put Malindi at the eighth berth with 11 points while Zimamoto are ninth with seven points. KMKM still top the 12-team.

Meanwhile, a luncheon has been organized for Copa Coca- Cola Under-15 champions Mjini Magharibi in Zanzibar today. Zanzibar Football Association (ZFA) Mjini chairman Hassan Haji Hamza said he has organized the party to congratulate the team for clinching the coveted trophy.

"The boys have pleased me a lot and I decided to honour them for a job well done," he said. "I've personally organized the luncheon and the association has nothing to do with it," he insisted.

Hamza said the chief guest is expected to be independent counsel Abdallah Juma who vainly vied for the ZFA presidency.

About 50 guests have been invited to the luncheon. They include all ZFA district leaders, officials of some of the district's clubs and sports journalists.

Mjini Magharibi were crowned 2013 champions after edging Ilala 1-0 in the final held at the Karume Memorial Stadium in Dar es Salaam last month.
