Emmanuel Emenike was again the hero for Nigeria as the Fenerbahace of Turkey striker scored twice Sunday afternoon to help the Super Eagles secure a vital 2-1 away victory over the Wayla Antelopes of Ethiopia.
The Ethiopians showed no respect for the African champions as they took the game to the Eagles right from the blast of the whistle, and would have taken the lead as early as the 24th minute, but a brave clearance off the goal line by Godfery Oboabona save the day for the Eagles.
After ending it square in the first half, Ethiopia finally shot into the lead, cashing on a school boy error that saw goalkeeper Vincent Enyema flop to a harmless in swinger by Asefa in the 57th minute. The Eagles revival came ten minutes later with Emenike firing a thunderbolt from outside the box which was only parried in by the goal keeper.
Emenike secured a vital win for Nigeria in the dying minutes as he calmly converted a penalty kick gifted Nigeria. Nigeria was awarded the kick after an Ethiopian defender latched Emenike down within the box. With the victory, the Eagles are in the driver's seat to Brazil 2014 but will have to complete the job in the second leg billed for November 16 2013.
