The government will free 400 inmates from King'ong'o and Nanyuki GK prisons. The pardon, aimed at decongesting the prisons, will release inmates serving a sentence of less than three years or those whose with three years left of their jail terms.
Nyeri High Court deputy registrar Vincent Nyakundi yesterday said the move is under the judicial transformation programme. He said the penal facilities are overpopulated. Nyakundi said his office have received a list of 300 prisoners to be freed from King'ong'o and 100 from Nanyuki on October 18 next week.
