Egypt: At Least 12 Migrants Die Off Alexandria in Egypt Boat Capsize

Cairo — At least 12 migrants have drowned and some 116 more were rescued after their boat capsized, early on Friday, near the Egyptian port of Alexandria, security officials said.

According to Alexandria's security chief, Amin Ezzeddin, the survivors - mostly Palestinians and Syrians - included 40 Syrians, 72 Palestinians and four Egyptians.

They were initially taken to a naval base in the Alexandria district of Ras al-Tin and then to a police station.

The incident comes a week after at least 319 migrants died when their boat sank off an Italian island.
