Uganda: Akope, Anguyo Miss Mena Tour Cut

UGANDAN professional golfers Deo Akope and Denis Anguyo ventured into the MENA Tour in United Arab Emirates and are finding it tough to match the level of competition.

Akope who missed the cut in the Shaikh Maktoum Dubai Open last week was most unlikely to make it the next on the tour which teed on Monday.

The MTN sponsored Akope shot an opening round 76 on Monday which he followed up with 74 to lie in 88th position in the Ras Al Khaimah Classic.

He needed to play under the Tower Links Golf Club par 72 to stand a chance of advancing to the third and fourth rounds.

Only the top 50 advance to the third and fourth rounds and are entitled to a share of the $50,000 (sh130m) prize money.

Anguyo who started the MENA Tour at Tower Links scored 79 in the first round and turned in 81 yesterday to occupy 113th spot out of 116 golfers.

South African Tyler Hogarty whose opening round of 65 set a new course record was still in the lead.
