Nairobi — A pastor has been shot dead in Mtopanga estate in Mombasa.
The incident occurred inside the Redeemed Gospel Church situated in Kisauni at 11pm on Saturday night.
Family members said that the pastor had earlier received death threats from unknown people which he reported the matter to police.
"He walked out of the house telling me that he is going to the church to pray as usual. He said that after praying, he would come back home directly. When he went, I do not know what happened only that he never returned at the time he was meant to," said his wife who went to look for him when he did not arrive home at the designated time.
"When I saw that he was getting late, I was accompanied by other pastors to the church where we found he was dead," she stated.
Church leaders are demanding for thorough investigations and arrest of those behind the murder.
"He was sitting on the seats which were in front of the church. That is where he was shot. We were told not to touch him until the police came. The surprising thing is that the guards said they heard nothing but the neighbours indicated that they heard an explosion," one of them said.
Mombasa county commander Robert Kitur indicated that the police have began investigations and are questioning the night guards who were in the church during the incident.
