INSURANCE plays a critical role in one's life and that of an organisation. But how many of us think of the importance of insurance in our lives? And how many of chief executive officers (CEOs) take insurance as one of the most critical factors, if not the most critical factor in the smooth running of an organisation?
Although this writer is not an insurance expert, he has been looking at insurance from many angles. And it is looking at insurance from one angle or few angles that has made many people and organisations not to take insurance seriously in their lives or in their organisations.
Don't be surprised with what I am saying. Just continue reading this article. You will come to discover why I am saying this and you will see the importance of insurance in one's personal life and that of an organisation.
The purpose of this article is to show how best to ensure your organisation has smooth and sustainable operations.
This article was conceptualised because we have just ended an insurance week.
It was further conceptualised from the analysis that high poverty levels in our country and poor performance of most organisations is a product of low considerations and application of the importance of insurance to our lives, careers, businesses or our organisations and, therefore, how best to insure ourselves or our organisation.
This can be true if one considers formal education, sound business or entrepreneurship skills, financial discipline and effective organisational management as part of insurance of one's life, business or organisational management. This is why I said one can look at insurance from many angles.
With a population of about 13 million people and many small, medium and large-scale businesses, insurance was supposed to be high in the country.
But it has been reported that insurance levels are very low.
This low insurance base is because most of us think that the only things that can be insured are big and valuable assets like motor cycles, vehicles, tractors, trains and aero planes.
Few people know that even houses, business buildings, crops, livestock, businesses or organisations should be insured.
And even if some people know that such properties should be insured, they don't put their knowledge into practice. They just know that such things are supposed to be insured and forget about insurance.
Most importantly, our lives should be insured. Now look here. When I am saying that our lives should be ensured, I am not saying that one who insures his or her life won't die.
I am merely saying insure your life to ensure that you achieve great things and be successful in your life. Insurance makes your family members, including your children not to suffer while you are alive and after your untimely death.
Moreover, the other insurance that this writer likes associating with that in most times of your life, you are safe and progressing well.
This means that you should insure yourself with sound formal education. If you didn't go further in formal education, you can insure yourself with improving on formal education by starting further studies in academic or professional education.
If you are like those I know who don't want to improve on their academic and professional education, you can insure yourself with sound business knowledge and skills.
Take a short course in business-related programmes. Gain sound knowledge in that business.
Make sure that you insure yourself with sound and sustainable sources of income to avoid running into serious debts as a result of unforeseen circumstances in your life.
In short, insure yourself to be safe and progressing well in your life. So, basically, from the above examples and explanation, the importance of insurance in your life and in your business is to protect yourself and your business from any negative unforeseen circumstance(s) that can have a telling long-term negative effect on your life and that of your family.
This is another way of being pro-active in your life and in your business. Therefore, insurance is part of professional Public Relations (PR) because PR is also pro-active.
It is from such a background that from an organisation's point of view, board of directors (BoDs) and CEOs should ensure that the organisation is well insured.
This can be achieved through having a vision, mission and goal for your organisation.
Ensure that you have high calibre staff in an organisation to propel that organisation to greater heights.
As part of insuring an organisation, ensure that these highly qualified staff are well supervised and adequately motivated so that there is high productivity and good work culture, respectively, to achieve your organisation's goal.
Make sure that every employee understands the vision, mission, values and goal of your organisation. Insure your organisation by ensuring that each worker's official duties are in tandem, and not repugnant to your organisation's vision, mission, values and goal.
Insure your organisation by ensuring that only high quality products that can meet customers' requirements are offered on the market.
Support your high quality products with high quality customer service and care at the right time.
Give each of your customers that inviting and attractive smile.
Put in place effective strategies to get timely and objective feedback from all your PR publics, including your employees.
Take corrective actions to any observations some of your PR publics make on your organisation.
Insure your organisation in such a way that you have few or no disruptions in your operations.
This approach to your business or organisational operations should be part of your insurance to motivate your workers and increase the number of customers or clients flocking to your business outlets or offices.
This will insure your organisation to have increased clientele and increased revenue that will give you sound financial base within a short time.
This approach to business or organisation management will insure you and your business or your organisation with support from more PR publics than ever before.
Remember that PR publics determine the success or failure of an organisation.
The more you insure yourself with more PR publics' support to your organisation, the more you assure yourself of smooth and sustainable operations of your organisation.
Therefore, insuring yourself and your organisation is the only way your organisation or your business can have smooth and sustainable operations to achieve its goal. Therefore, always be insured.
