As part of rebuilding the Liberian society following a bloody 14 years of civil war in the country, the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) in collaboration with the Transformation of War Affected Youth (TRANSWAY), has began building the capacities of several Liberian youths to upgrade their potentials to join the reconstruction of Liberia.
Speaking to this paper at the 7th graduation of the Netlib Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) in Oldest Congo Town, the Deputy Executive Director of War Affected Youth Incorporated, Bishop Jerry C.M Yarkpa, said the acquisition of technical knowledge and vocational skills by young Liberians is very necessary and should therefore be prioritized in the country.
According to Bishop Yarkpa, such initiatives will enable them become progressive to the country's economy, despite the horrible condition they experienced during the country's civil crisis.
He told reporters that his entity's supportive venture to the students in collaboration with NOCAL was necessary, because Liberian youths have the ability to positively divert the country's economy if they are provided adequate materials to demonstrate.
Bishop Yarkpa stated that the George Interior Design and Maintenance Service, the mother organization of TRANSWAY, was grateful to NOCAL for adhering to their plea to empower the next generation of Liberians, which he said yielded to the successful certification of several students in various disciplines at NVTI.
He called on other segments of the Liberian Government and President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to begin extending monetary and material support to the institution so as to enable them reach to additional youths throughout the country.
Bishop Yarkpa further indicated that his institution has since 2011aided at most 400 Liberian youths in eighteen vocational centers including some academic institutions in Liberia.
"TRANSWAY is currently putting in place strategies to begin acquiring job opportunities for their trainees as well as the distribution of tool kits to beneficiaries.
The initiative is also taking into consideration gender balance, emphasizing that females are said to be sufferers to a larger degree whenever societal, economic, political, natural breakdown strikes.
