Development engineering is a new interdisciplinary field of research, that encompasses theoretical subjects as well as applied science. The common goal is to tackle the challenges blocking the delivery of more equitable development in an interconnected world.
In part 1 of the podcast, Lina Nilsson, innovation director at the Blum Center for developing economies at the University of California Berkeley, in the United States, tells SciDev.Net about new ways to democratise science by putting research in touch with the market and the real needs of people all over the world.
In part 2, she explains that to solve the complex challenges of our time, scientists must become 'interdisciplinary thinkers'. In addition to their 'native language', they need to create new powerful combinations of skillsets that can lead to original solutions.
