Kenya was re-elected to chair Commonwealth's Telecommunications Organisation council during its 53rd session last Friday in Abuja, attended by 20 countries The council provides oversight strategic leadership and guidance to the CTO management on strategic plan, business plan and operational budget.
Nigeria and, Trinidad and Tobago were also retained as 1st and 2nd vice chair, respectively. Meanwhile, an estimated 100,000 smartphone are sold every month in Kenya, with Safaricom shops accounting for 40 per cent. Samsung East Africa Head of Mobile Manoj Changarampatt said the sales are driven by the growing middle class's appetite for smartphones.
