23 October 2013

Large quantities of miraa are being imported from Kenya into the UK ahead of a ban on the stimulant set to take effect at the end of this year. Each stick of miraa sells for around 413 shillings in London and a box of 40 costs nearly 5000 shillings. The trade earns Kenya approximately 2.06billion shillings a year and is believed to employ around half a million people.
