Kenya: African Countries Write to UNSC On Deferral of Kenyan ICC Cases

Thirty nine African countries have sent identical letters to the United Nations Security Council asking for the deferral of the Kenyan cases at the International Criminal Court.

The African countries have asked for the deferral of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto's trial at the Hague under Article 16 of the Rome Statute. According to the statement the deferral is to allow the two leaders to deal with threats to peace and acts of aggression likely to transpire in light of the prevailing and continuing terrorist threat existing in the Horn of and East Africa.
