Erick Luvumbazi-Ngoda's winning of The Burt Award for African Literature, young adult fiction, confirms the obvious - that Kenyan literature is diverse, and there are more Kenyan writers out there to be fancied.
Although the freelance journalist published his first book, Begwani the Beggar, in 1999, he is not known within the Kenyan literary circle. He does not wear a "political posture" and might be mistaken for a nonflammable writer. That's until you read his winning title, A Name for Himself.
