Kenya: Illegal Children's Homes Warned

25 October 2013

The Kwale county government will close all illegal children's homes, Governor Salim Mvurya has said. Mvurya said such homes mistreat children while others are used as stash houses for drug traffickers.

Speaking at Mshiu on Tuesday during the official opening of Kids Care Centre in Lunga Lunga constituency, Mvurya said many of the orphanages operate for the owners' selfish interests and not for the welfare of children. He said an auidt of close children's homes will be conducted by the county.
